On 24 September 2024, Hrvatske Autoceste (HAC) signed a contract for the implementation of the new toll collection system with a joint venture consisting of the Slovak company SkyToll and the Czech company TollNet. The Czech–Slovak joint venture was selected from among ten renowned candidates from around the world. The total value of the contract amounts to EUR 79,913,480.52 excluding VAT, of which EUR 64,167,383.70 relates to the design, construction and equipping of the toll collection system, while the remaining amount covers spare parts and a ten-year system maintenance period.
The funds are provided under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The new toll collection system will be introduced on all motorways in the Republic of Croatia (a total of more than 1,400 kilometres), operated by HAC and the concessionaires Bina Istra and Autocesta Zagreb–Macelj.
The system will be compatible with EETS (the European Electronic Toll Service) and will provide opportunities for further flexible development.
